Fishbourne, meaning ‘fish spring’ is a little village on the Isle of Wight, and it’s where the Wightlink car ferry lands when it comes from Portsmouth.
Pretty as a picture, Fishbourne is, for many, the very first place that visitors see when they arrive on the Isle of Wight, and it is sometimes forgotten in the haste to reach the larger towns such as Ryde or Cowes, but an exploration of Fishbourne is never a wasted one.
Nearby are the ruins of a Norman abbey that dates back to around 1132, as well as the Benedictine monastery (which includes Quarr Abbey) which was founded in the early 1900s.
For those who love yachting, the famous Royal Victoria Yacht Club is close to the ferry terminal, as is the Fishbourne Inn which is renowned for its hospitality.
