Cowes is a sailing enthusiast’s heaven, but although it is famous for its boat race and watersports, the stunning Victorian architecture of the town is another reason why Cowes can boast its claim to be the most popular town on the Isle of Wight.
Cowes can often get busy in tourist season, but that’s no reason not to visit – there’s enough room for everyone.

One of the biggest attractions in Cowes is Osborne House. Once the favourite holiday home of Queen Victoria and her beloved Albert, Osborne House is a great family day out full of history, events, fun and games. The royal influence can be seen all over Cowes, and includes Prince Albert’s famous gardens (West Cowes) which went on to inspire an entirely new generation to become landscapers.
When you are in Cowes you mustn’t miss the opportunity to see the floating bridge that connects East Cowes to Cowes. It’s actually a chain ferry and it is something quite special. As well as this excellent piece of engineering there is the Wight Military and Heritage Museum which details the fascinating military history of the area. You will be able to see uniforms, tanks and other artefacts.
