Cruises from Greenock, Scotland

Greenock may only be 25 miles from Glasgow, but it may as well be in a different world altogether.

This stunning fishing village was the site of the very first dock built on the Clyde. That was in 1711. Since then Greenock has become a beautiful town with a long, fascinating history.

Some of the buildings here – particularly the ones from the Victorian era – are amongst the most beautiful in Scotland. This includes the 245 foot Victoria Tower with, although incomplete, is still stunning.

There is a lot to do here. The most popular attraction is the McLean Museum and Art Gallery which is full of collections relating to all aspects of life in the area including much information on James Watt who was born in Greenock. As well as Scottish artefacts there is also Egyptian and natural history collections.

Also on the must see list is the Old West Kirk. This church dates back to 1591 and features a stained glass window designed by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

For those who love to enjoy the great outdoors the Greenock Cut is one of the 50 best walks in Scotland. From the top of the aqueduct it is possible to see some of the best views of the Clyde.

    • Fred Olsen is worth keeping an eye on. Cruise & Maritime Voyages used to do something similar but went bust during the global cruise suspension thanks to Coronavirus.
